Palin calls Bush a major obstacle for campaign

Oct. 24, 2008

By Alex Johnson

This article is a report of an interview with Palin done by msnbc's Brain Williams.  Palin first remarks are about how president Bush is an major obstacle in  the thier campaign because Bush is so unpopular.  Palin goes on to say that her and McCain are determined to distance themself from him. Then the interview shirts toward the fact that Palin is growing extremely popular with republican voters and will be strong candidate for the 2012 election.  Thne it finishes up with the some of the contreverseys surounding Palin.  This article is fair towards Palin as it reports exacatly what she said during the interview and gives background on her past in non biased way.

Palin's off-script comments irratate McCain aides

From Dana Bash

October 27, 2008

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/27/palin.tension/index.html

This is article focuses on the rising tensions between Palin and aides of McCain.  The article has quotes from McCain associates saying that Palin has gone rogue and is thinking of herself as a diva and is playing for herself and not so much for McCain.  The article goes on to say how all republicans agree that Palin's news coverage has been mishandeld and she has to be limited on what she can say and needs to be breifed on many topics.  This article I would say it a bit biased toward Palin as it shows her in a nagative light as it has many quotes from McCain aides critizing her.  Also we do not kno what other things the republican associates could have said as the article only reports the negatives.

Alaska Inquiry Concludes Palin Abused Powers

Published: October 10, 2008

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/11/us/politics/11trooper.html

This article shows that Palin abused her powers of her office by trying to get her former brother in law fired who is a alaskan state trooper.  This article gives a fair repersantation of the story as it uses facts public facts and statements from those involved.  The article does however sho Palin in a very negative light by spotlighting her tryin to use her powers to put unfair pressure on people and trying to advance her personal agenda.  It also highlights that Palin is not focused on the campaing trail as she is trying to settle personal vendettas back home.

Look Is the Same; the Labels Have Changed

By ERIC WILSON
Published: October 22, 2008
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/23/us/politics/23style.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

This article is about Sarah Palin's expensive new wardrobe.  The article list's the large amounts of money her campaign has been spending on her designer outfits.  The article talks about how Palin dresses realtively the same as before she became republican V.P. candidate but has now switched to expensive designer versions of her previous clothes.  The article is fair towards Palin listing the expensives of her clothes realesed by her campaign.  The article does however talk some shots at Palin by asking what messages she is trying to convey from the her clothes.  Also the article points out that it is suprising she chooses to wear these clothes since she tries to be so popular with the working class voters.

Palin Says Obama's Policies Could Lead to Crises

Published: October 21, 2008
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/washington/AP-Palin.html

This article is about  Sarah Palin attacking Barack Obama on his foreign policy proposals that she said would lead to crisis if he was elected president.  Threw out the article Palin is quoted from her  speeches only then to be contridicted by the article or by other things she has said  showing that her statements  are false .  The article points out many mistakes palin has made and conveys here as not knowing very much on policies and attacking with no evidence.  The article constanly shoots down her arguments with facts from the Obama campaing and makes Palin out to be knowledgeless and rude.

Could 'Palin factor' save McCain?

From Ed Henry

CNN

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/21/palin.factor/index.html

This peice by CNN is about how Sarah Palin the republican V.P. candidate is drawing bigger crowds then McCain at her rallies.  This is article is showing that there is a bigger general intrest in Palin then McCain.  The article is potraying Palin as the "attack dog" of the republican campaign saying she is now more important to the campaign then McCain and could ultimatley save the race for the republicans.  This article portrays Palin as being more important then McCain as she has drawn a loyal following then McCain as she is very contravercial in the Public eye

One thing I have noticed from following news storys and reports about Sarah Palin is it seems most of americas focus on the republican party is directed toward Palin. However most of this attention is not positive as many news reports reflect Palin in a bad light.  Though this does not seem to effect republican voters as she is more popular then McCain among them and it seems as though McCain has been forgotten about.  It almost seems that Palin is becoming more then a political figure as many news reports convey here as a diva and celebrity rather then a political figure which i think works toward her favor in popularity.  Also Palin gives off a attitude that the media eats up as a rebel and a hockey mom that makes her so popular with working class voter who she trys 2 appeal to.  However when it comes to pollitics Palin seems lost according to most veiws held by news reporters and experts.  One major critizism is Palin would never be able to run the country if somthing happened to McCain.  The media gives off a portayal of Palin not being competant and not knowing policies.  The news coverage of Palin seems to be fair as it does not fasly attack her.  Though many articles I read do critize her for not being qualified enough to be vice president and that she does not carry enough knowledge of important policies.  Though these articles are biased in the dact that they are negative towards Palin the articles attack direct quotes she has made or contraversies  she has been invlolved in.

One example of where the media shows Palin in a negative light is an article by CNN's Dana Bash about how some of Palin unscripted comments enraged mnay aides to McCain.  This article shows Palin as trying to be more of an diva instead of an political candidate. "She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone,"  an McCain adviser said this quote and many others came directly from the republican campaign.  This points directly toward the trend i have been noticing that Palin is percived more a celebrity figure and not a polititcian even from her own campaign. The next trend in which the article examplifies is the fact that Palin has quickly become as republican stratigest Ed Rollins points out "most popular Republican in this country when this thing is over."  These two trends  being shown by the media of Palin not qualified and knowledgable enough for her position and more of a diva then a politician but that contrary to this she has quickly become the most popular republican.
