After attending Drew University's group exhibit on Friday, September 5th , it was clear that several groups were determined to both make a change and encourage their fellow peers to join as well. In particular, Habitat for Humanity, also known within the campus community as DUHH, is a student run group whose goals are to help  those in need. From reaching out to neighboring communities, to Sea Island Hawaii, Habitat for Humanity is determined to make a change. The goal of the group is to improve housing and living conditions for those who are currently living extreme poverty. Habitat for Humanity (DUHH) is a fundraising group, but also invites anyone to come and donate their time whenever possible.  If you are interested to donate your time in any way, you can contact one of the executive staff members through the Drew email.

Why someone might join

Usually when one thinks of joining a club, they think, well.. how much time do I have to put in? And in many cases it is hard to give back to the community and others when trying to juggle a college schedule. If you find yourself really wanting to join a club, but are unsure about meeting or finding the time to regularly participate, Habitat for Humanity is for you. Whether one decides to participate in one project, or several, Habitat for Humanity only asks for those to lend a helping hand when they can. Overall, Habitat for Humanity truly embraces the goal of a community service, which is to lend a helping hand whenever you can to those who are in need. After all it's not about how many houses or lives you change, but more importantly the desire to make a change.

I was very pleased that Drew had this Organization, and I would love to join. At the activity fair I signed up for this organization because I want to help others. I have a great family that has always been there for me giving me all the necessities in life, and I would love to help other that did not always have what I was able to have.

My founding of this organization was surprising yet inspiring; their outreach services affect people on a universal struggle of poverty.  This issue of concern is especially significance to me because I grow up in an environment where housing was subsided and poverty stricken homes were the norm. There was an overwhelming sensation of joy to learn that the Drew community is taking action on such an important topic. I would take great pleasure in join the fight to improve the living quality for the less fortunate. This would be my way of given back to my community through the helping other just like it.
