Below is a list of due dates for each assignment. WRITE THEM DOWN!

 

Click on the title of the assignment for a much fuller description of what you need to do and how you need to do it. Note that most of these assignments are multi-staged. Almost everything we do in class will be used in one or more assignments over the course of the semester, so even if it feels like "busy work," do your homework when it is assigned!


Assignments due in the relevant k:drive folder by the beginning of class unless otherwise noted. 

FINAL drafts due in print form in class.

Mid-term and final portfolio papers due in a manila folder in the red box in the hall Sitterly by the deadline.


 

Project #1: Literacy Narrative

Friday, Sept. 5: Draft 1 due in class 

Wednesday, Sept. 10: Revised literacy narrative (with new introduction and conclusion) due in class 

Wednesday, Oct 8: Revised introduction (and conclusion if you can) due in the k:drive by the beginning of class

Monday, Oct. 13: Revising outline due in the k:drive by the beginning of class 

Friday, Oct. 17: Final draft of paper may be one of the two papers in your mid-term portfolio

 

Project #2: College and Community

Monday, Sept. 8: description and response to two Drew clubs or organizations from the Activities Fair

Wednesday, Sept. 10: post descriptions and responses to the Drew events Wiki

Monday, Sept. 15: ideas and notes for paper #2. 

Friday, Sept. 19: good draft due in class

Wednesday, Oct 8: Revised introduction (and conclusion if you can) due in the k:drive by the beginning of class

Monday, Oct. 13: Revising outline due in the k:drive by the beginning of class

Wednesday, Sept. 17: story selected and posted to the local news wiki

Monday, Sept. 22: at least four news summaries posted to the wiki

Wednesday, Oct 1: all news summaries revised (on the wiki); the best or most important summary saved to the k:drive (Project 3 folder)

Friday, Oct. 3: news narrative due in the your k:drive project 3 folder by the beginning of class

Monday, Oct. 6: Draft of paper due in the k:drive by the beginning of class

Wednesday, Oct 8: Revised introduction (and conclusion if you can) due in the k:drive by the beginning of class

Monday, Oct. 13: Revising outline due in the k:drive by the beginning of class

Friday, Oct. 17: Final draft of paper may be one of the two papers in your mid-term portfolio

 

Mid-term Portfolio: October 17, portfolios are due in the red box in Sitterly no later than 5PM

 

Project #4: Electronic Democracy Project 1 (candidates in the media)

Friday, Oct. 17: candidate, topic, or issue selected and posted to the wiki

Monday, Oct. 20: at least two story summaries to your topic page (linked to the Election Watch wiki)

Friday, Oct. 24: at least two more story summaries posted to your topic page of the wiki

Monday, Oct. 27: at least two more story summaries posted to your topic page of the wiki

Wednesday, Oct. 29: a total of eight story summaries on the wiki plus a one paragraph summary of what you have found -- bias, fairness, objectivity, etc. Don't forget to think about the IAT if you aren't sure what to write. Implicit associations often produce biased stories--although the bias is subtle

Friday, Oct 31: a list of specific examples of where you see bias/objectivity/fairness etc (ie: specific examples to support your claim)

Friday, Nov 14: Extended outline of paper #4 due in k:drive project 4 folder by the beginning of class

Monday, Nov 17: draft of paper #4 due in k:drive project 4 folder by the beginning of class

Friday, Nov. 21: Final draft of paper due in class
